What a New Door Costs in Canada — Entry, Patio and Interior, With Your Province's Sales Tax
Pick the door, how many, and whether the frame, sidelights or removal are part of the job, and see the installed price in Canadian dollars — then what the province does to the invoice: 13% HST in Ontario, 5% GST in Alberta, 11% in Saskatchewan, and in British Columbia and Manitoba a 5% invoice with the provincial tax already inside the installer's price.

- Home Renovation Savings Program (IESO (Save on Energy) with Enbridge Gas): C$100 per rough opening. ENERGY STAR windows and doors, only as part of a bundle: a home energy assessment plus at least two eligible upgrades. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
Nothing is subtracted from the figure above: each programme depends on the door's rating, an energy assessment or your heating type, which this calculator cannot check. The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant named doors too, but it is closed.
Where the band comes from — and who disagrees
Exterior entry door — steel, prehung: C$1,300 – C$1,800 per door installed, low end from Ecoline Windows (Canadian installer) and high end from Canadian Choice Windows & Doors (windowscanada.com). Every line is scaled by ×1.0426 — Job Bank's renovation-trade wage composite for Toronto against the national median, damped because the guides print installed prices with no labour split. The Canadian default. Both endpoints are installers' installed prices. HomeStars prints C$600–C$1,200 all in, below both, so it is shown as a cross-check, not used as an endpoint.
A wage differential is not a local price. The labour differential is a Job Bank WAGE ratio, not a local price, and Canada's wage data and Canada's renovation price guides disagree about two major metros. Job Bank puts Montréal's renovation-trade wages 15% above the national median and Vancouver's 3% below it, while Canadian renovation price guides place Montréal below the national average and Vancouver 25% to 40% above it. So in Montréal this calculator's figure is pushed up and in Vancouver down — the opposite of what those guides report — and no provincial or city price level is modelled at all: only the sales tax and this wage ratio change with the address. The wage basket is Job Bank's five-trade renovation composite — Carpenters (NOC 72310), Electricians (except industrial and power system) (NOC 72200), Plumbers (NOC 72300), Painters and decorators (except interior decorators) (NOC 73112), Construction trades helpers and labourers (NOC 75110). It does NOT include roofers, sheet-metal workers or HVAC technicians, so for eavestrough and furnace-humidifier work the differential is a proxy for the installer's labour, not a measurement of it.
- Ecoline: Single steel, installed, C$1,300 – C$1,500
- Canadian Choice (Ontario): Steel, materials + labour, installed, C$1,400 – C$1,800
- HomeStars: Steel entry, "all in" (low outlier), C$600 – C$1,200
- Magic Windows & Doors (Ontario): Steel door only, before C$200–C$600 labour, C$1,000 – C$2,500
What this calculator will not add
Not priced: cutting a new opening in a wall (a structural header and a building permit, which no source prices), storm doors, smart or multi-point locks and paint, and any multi-door discount — one guide says hanging two or three interior doors in one visit saves C$50–C$100 a door, so a multi-door total here is on the high side.
Every figure is in Canadian dollars. The headline is before tax; the tax line follows the province the house is in, from government sources. Prices are dated Canadian commercial market sources — no Canadian government body publishes an installed door price. Estimate only; get written quotes.

- Sidelights and transoms: C$400–C$1,500 per panel (HomeStars); an installer's list puts two sidelights at about three times one.

What the province adds to the invoice
Supplying and installing a door is work on real property, so the tax follows the province the house is in. Manitoba Finance's RST Bulletin 008 names "installing doors and windows into a building" as a real-property contract, which is why Manitoba's 7% RST sits inside the installer's price rather than on your invoice. These are the rates every Canadian renovation calculator on this site shares, each read at a government source except where marked.

Door rebates by province — listed, not deducted
The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant named doors: Paid C$125 per ENERGY STAR door opening (C$250 for ENERGY STAR Most Efficient). Natural Resources Canada states that 31 December 2025 was the last day to submit documents, so it is not available for a door installed now. These provincial programme pages name doors today. Each has conditions this calculator cannot check, so it lists them and subtracts nothing.
- Ontario — Home Renovation Savings Program (IESO (Save on Energy) with Enbridge Gas): C$100 per rough opening. ENERGY STAR windows and doors, only as part of a bundle: a home energy assessment plus at least two eligible upgrades. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
- Quebec — Rénoclimat (Gouvernement du Québec): C$150 per door or window opening. ENERGY STAR, with before-and-after EnerGuide evaluations showing an improvement; a door replaced without its frame is not eligible. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
- Manitoba — Windows and Doors Rebate (Efficiency Manitoba (Crown corporation)): C$100 per unit. Eligible entry doors, and glazed or sliding doors with at least triple-pane glass; apply within 90 days. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
- British Columbia — Home Renovation Rebate — windows and doors (BC Hydro with the Province of BC and FortisBC (CleanBC Better Homes)): C$100 per window or door, up to C$2,000. U-factor 1.22 or lower, in an electrically heated home; the City of Vancouver is excluded. Income-qualified CleanBC tiers pay more, set by questionnaire. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
- Nova Scotia — Home Energy Assessment rebates (Efficiency Nova Scotia): C$30 per rough opening. ENERGY STAR window or door replaced including the frame, through a Home Energy Assessment. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
- New Brunswick — Total Home Energy Savings — additional rebates (NB Power (Save Energy NB, Crown utility)): C$50 per unit. ENERGY STAR windows, doors and skylights. Programme page, read 2026-10-04.
Worked examples
City of Toronto, Ontario. One steel entry door in a sound frame, removal included. The national C$1,300–C$1,800 band times the Toronto labour multiplier of 1.0426 (Job Bank's Toronto wage ratio of 1.0710, damped by a 60% labour share) is C$1,355.37–C$1,876.66 before tax; Ontario's 13% HST brings it to C$1,531.57–C$2,120.63.
Saskatchewan. Two sliding patio doors with removal billed separately, on the national wage row: 2 × C$1,500–C$4,500 plus 2 × C$100–C$200 is C$3,200–C$9,400. GST 5% plus PST 6% on the whole charge, labour included, brings it to C$3,552–C$10,434.
Winnipeg, Manitoba. One fibreglass entry door, frame rebuilt, two sidelights. C$1,470–C$3,500 + C$200–C$600 + 2 × C$400–C$1,500, times Winnipeg's multiplier of 0.9698, is C$2,395.28–C$6,885.23. Only the 5% GST goes on the invoice: C$2,515.04–C$7,229.49. About C$67.07–C$192.79 of RST is already inside the installer's price, on the materials.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to replace an exterior door in Canada?
Canadian installers' installed prices read on 4 October 2026 put a steel entry door at about C$1,300 to C$1,800, fibreglass at C$1,470 to C$3,500 and solid wood at about C$2,200 to C$6,500 or more. Those are Canadian dollars per door before GST, HST or PST. Sidelights or a transom add C$400 to C$1,500 per panel in one Canadian guide, and a rotted frame that has to be rebuilt adds C$200 to C$600.
What does a new steel front door cost installed in Toronto?
For one steel entry door in a sound frame with removal included, this calculator's low estimate in the City of Toronto is about C$1,355 and its high about C$1,877 before tax: the national C$1,300 to C$1,800 band scaled up about 4% for Job Bank's Toronto renovation-trade wages. Ontario's 13% HST takes the low to about C$1,532 and the high to about C$2,121. The prices are Canadian market guides, not a Toronto price survey; only the sales tax and a wage differential change with the address.
How much does a patio door cost to install in Canada?
A standard two-panel sliding patio door runs about C$1,500 to C$4,500 installed in HomeStars' 2026 Canadian guides, and a French (hinged pair) patio door C$2,000 to C$6,000. Home Depot Canada prices a 5 to 6 ft slider at C$1,700 to C$3,500 installed in Ontario, before tax. If the old door's removal is billed separately, HomeStars puts it at C$100 to C$200.
How much does it cost to install an interior door in Canada?
HomeStars' August 2026 Canadian guide puts a prehung interior door at C$250 to C$650 installed and a slab hung in the existing frame at C$150 to C$450, before tax. A Québec guide prices the labour alone at C$240 to C$780 plus the door, so quotes vary widely. Two or three doors hung in one visit usually cost less per door.
Is there a rebate for new doors in Canada?
Not federally any more: the Canada Greener Homes Grant, which paid C$125 per ENERGY STAR door opening, stopped taking documents on 31 December 2025. Some provinces still name doors, each with conditions: Québec's Rénoclimat C$150 per opening with EnerGuide evaluations, Efficiency Manitoba C$100 per eligible door, Ontario's Home Renovation Savings C$100 per opening in a bundle with an energy assessment, BC Hydro C$100 per door in an electrically heated home, NB Power C$50 and Efficiency Nova Scotia C$30. This calculator lists them and deducts none.
